If you would listen to the TV you would think that there is a big debate on heath care going on. Not really. The health care debate is actually only the ground on which the right wing is choosing to reignite the culture wars. Using rumors and lies, they are trying to frighten the most naive of our citizens. The insurance industry is pairing up with the normal right wing outlets to spread misinformation to unsuspecting people. Of course the loudest and most ill informed of these folks are showing up at the town hall meetings to disrupt - not participate in - discussions about this critical issues. I could write forever about this but instead I will refer you back to my years of chronicling how the right wing is an insincere, unAmerican, anti democratic movement that will do and say anything to keep power in the hands of the few. The loons at the meeting are just their unknowing pawns.
I am about 125 pages into the book The Family. It is an amazing look at the history of American Christian Fundamentalism and how they have discreetly worked their way into the most powerful positions in the United States. This book really gets a foot into the door of this unknown aspect of US politics and shows how deeply ingrained the right wing has been in decisions both behind the scenes as well as in public view.
Two NFL players have been in the news for the crimes they have committed. Micheal Vick has returned after doing jail time for organizing dog fights. Of course I am sickened by his heinous acts, but he did the time and deserves another chance. I would have even welcomed him to the Dolphins. Vick seems genuinely sorry and remorseful. He seems to have learned his lesson. If the criminal justice system is to have any credibility, then we have to allow Vick another chance after paying his debt to society. Plaxico Burris, a former New York Jet, was sentenced to 1 1/2 years for bringing a gun to a NYC nightclub and accidentally shooting himself. He got off easy. I owned a gun when I lived in Florida but in New York City there are no guns allowed. This city could not function if they were. Burriss knew the law - or he should have and he is lucky to have plead down to a sorter term.
Speaking of guns. How about these nuts bringing them to Obama rallies. Yes, they have a legal right to do that but how about good judgement and good taste? So many individuals from the far right are stuck in a child like mode - acting out when they don't get their way.
Two big stories from the Bush administration which confirms how correct we critics were and just how dishonest the previous administration was. Tom Ridge has admitted that the terror warning were raised during the 2004 election for political purposes. Bush may not have won if not for this horrible manipulation of the American people! We have found out that torture was used more often, more cruelly and by a directive from the highest sources! Also we have learned that Blackwater agents were used as separate assassination cells to attack at the orders of Dick Cheney. President Obama is right not to want to get directly involved in any look back. But a Congressional and/or independent investigators needs to get the whole truth out about manipulated US elections and illegal activities by the Bush people. In order for a real debate to take place in the future, the United States needs to purge the fanatical far right machine that has ignored American laws for so many years. Expose them, remove them and let the Republican party rebuild without the leadership of these dishonest and insincere criminals.
The "cash for clunkers" program is ending this weekend. It has been wildly successful - far beyond the expectations of anyone. Gas guzzlers are off the road, people have new vehicles, dealerships are busy and the chain reaction has led to positive economic news for thousands who have secondary business related the automobile industry. A good idea, well implemented with successful results.
