Off to work early today and I am beyond exhausted. I do get a day off Thursday and everyone gets back from their vacation later this week. The weather is feeling summery - but not too hot yet. We are hitting 80 - 85 which is tolerable. The rain is letting up a little although we did get 3 down pours in the middle of the day yesterday and one last night. Included in that was a rainstorm while the sun was shining - very Florida like.
The Michael Jackson Memorial was yesterday. It seemed to be be on every channel! I "saw" much of it but because it was at work did not "hear" it. What I did hear all day were complaints about the overwhelming coverage of MJ's death. It has been non stop on all channels that's for sure so I understand the complaints. I just hope no one who believes in Republican ideology or claims to still be a "Conservative" is complaining. You see, the only reason this is on all the time on so many channels is ratings. When MJ is on - the ratings go up. When ratings go up, so do advertising dollars. So the MJ coverage is capitalism in it's purest form. So those who, for years have tried to claim that the magical powers of the invisible hand is the answer to everything , have no room to complain. This is what they want and this is what we have.
Just one article to link to today and it's by my favorite Olivia Johnson. Sher wonders if fire ... yes fire ... is a type of living creature. I admit I have wondered that myself. She doesn't come up with any earth shaking conclusions but, as always, it is a fascinating read.
"... fire is, in many respects, a kind of animal, albeit an ethereal one. Like any animal, it consumes oxygen. Like a sheep or a slug, it eats plants. But unlike a normal animal, it’s a shape-shifter. Sometimes, it merely nibbles a few leaves; sometimes it kills grown trees. Sometimes it is more deadly and destructive than a swarm of locusts."

I am conservative and I hate the MJ coverage!
But I have to say good point to your analysis. A lot of people are very selective about when they want the free marketplace to rule the day. Pretty similar to the good old NIMBY syndrome.
