But the substance of the speech spoke real change too. No more creative imagery, where the President says what he wishes were true as facts and offering more of the same recipe for disaster. No, last night President Obama gave us the hard truth and some solid remedies. Obama explained things clearly and coherently. He came across as someone, not hell bent on pushing through a pre-determined ideology, but offering practical solution to the real problems we find our selves in.
The government is back because - the government NEEDS to be back. The private sector was left to run amok and amok it ran. The private sector needs controls and regulations just as government does. For years we were told that government was all evil. Politicians and a political movement repeated this and disseminated the philosophy through the normal right wing channels. While those who funded this propaganda, especially at the beginning, knew that it was a ruse, the man on the street and politicians of George W. Bush's generation failed to see it as the fraud that it was. It was an ideology initiated by the super rich and designed to funnel money upwards, and people bought into the con for an entire generation.
But that era is over. How great that Obama now wants to use the government to repair whats broken, set up structure to prevent a repeat, and then - best of all - step back out of the way. Again, having the government get out of control is just as bad as having the private sector do so. President Obama wants to give the economy a shot in the arm, let it grow, make it strong and then reduce the deficit and the government when things get going again. Make the correction, set up a strong structure for the future and restart the capitalistic engine which has served us so well. A great plan which needs everyone to get behind.
