The Fight to save the United States

This is a fight that real conservatives, tea partiers, moderates and liberals should join together to fight. Last weeks Supreme Court decision to give corporations many of the same rights as individuals is scandalous and threatens our democracy. This is not an exaggeration. The USA, with this ruling, has shown itself, in the eyes of the activist Justices, to be a corporation not a country.

I will dedicate much more time to this cause. It bigger than a President or political parties. It's bigger than right or left. It is a fight on whether we are a country fueled by capitalism or one controlled by it. Those who (rightfully) fear too much government interference in our lives should be outraged at this! Too much power by the most powerful capitalists is even more dangerous and oppressive than an overbearing government. There are no elections to vote out these big money people and certainly, no moral compass or other restrictions to control the truthfulness of their words or actions.

We have already seen how they (eg. insurance and energy companies) are willing to spend billions lying to people to manipulate public opinion. This decision by the Supreme Court cements this 'right" into law and encourages expansion of it. This video is a great summary of the issue and a nice starting point for a fight I expect all individual Americans to join. It starts of with president Obama saying he will "fight" for us but really gets going when Maddow explains how the decision will effect us all. Give the video time - it will get good.

Finally, while Maddow is focused on the Democrat and Republican, and let's face it, this has always been the goal of the republican party, I would like to see old or even current Republicans condemn this ruling. It really should be something that everyone, except the very wealthy and the elected officials owned by them should reject. I know that tea partiers, whose who proclaim a love for "freedom" and who insist that "the GOP left me" have loud voices right now. They should use them to condemn this ruling. You will win many allies on the left and prove to this sceptical blogger that you're not just Republicans in disguise waiting to once again pull the lever for the GOP despite your claims of independence. The silence is suspiciously deafening. Given the magnitude of this ruling however, it may just be shock preventing more from speaking out.
