Love you and leave you alone

For years I have tried to convince and persuade people caught up in the Right Wing fantasy to look at the facts and reassess their opinions. For years I have been unsuccessful. Over the past couple months I have taken a different tact. When the "Death Panel" stories began being spread by the Right, I pointed out how unequivocally false these claims were. It was a ridiculous lie. It was an intentional distortion by the Right to frighten people into supporting insurance companies and hating the new President.

Frankly, I was shocked at how many people on the Right believed this fabrication without the hint of retrospection or suspicion. It was at that point when a light went off in my mind. I came to the conclusion that to reason with these people is fruitless and a waste of all our time. It's rude but truthful to say that these folks, who BELIEVE Fox, Beck and Palin, are ether unwilling or unable to distinguish fact from fiction. I no longer will spend my time trying to use logic with those who are intellectually lazy or - I'm sorry to have to say this - just plain stupid. Apparently the White House feels the same way.

The Obama administration will still talk to the network that calls itself FOX News and they have not called on it to be taken off the air . However, they have publicly identified them as an arm of the GOP. They are not a "news" network at all. They are simply a promotional operation of the Republican party.

So for those who continue to live in their Right Wing fantasy world, I now say - let them be. Why waste time on these idiots? If they want to hand over their ability to rationalize to an Australian media mogul or a drug addict talk show host - more power to them. But don't whine to me when you embrace habitual liars and haters and we call you out on it. The fact of the matter is that you have sacrificed your ability to be taken seriously. I love you all but you are no longer relevant to the reality all the rest of us have to face. I don't want to kick you out of the country or deny you health care or anything like that. You are still Americans and my brothers and sisters. But at some point we can't allow the nation to be held back by people who refuse to contribute anything constructive to the modern world.
