The Cop Lied

I am glad that President Obama is getting together with the players in the big Gates arrest controversy. However, the fact of the matter is that Sgt. Crowley, the arresting officer, lied in his police report. The cop claimed that he talked to the eye witness who told him the people supposedly "breaking in" were "black". First, he did not talk to the eye witness and second, the witness never said that they were black. Now that the 911 tape has been release and the witness has spoken out, we know this to be true.

It seems to me that the cop went in, pissed off Gates who then got a smart mouth. The cop didn't like Gate's attitude and trumped up charges and reasons to slap handcuffs on him. That sort of police abuse of power goes on all the time to people of all colors. It seems to have happened here too.

So while I am glad that this is becoming a teachable moment we have to bear witness to the truth. One of the lesson that has to be learned is that just because the police say something, doesn't mean it's true. Certainly in this case the beer swilling Crowley is guilty of lying on his police report. A stupid act that has been easily exposed. It's no wonder that the charges were dropped almost instantly after the ugly incident.
