Friday Round Up (RIP Edition)

Just a few minutes to do a blog entry. I love my new computer but one thing it does not do is give me more time in the day to write and create videos. I have been taking all the tutorials and practicing some of the nifty features on this thing. It is really going to be great. I may only be able to make an occasional video for now, but when I do get into it, I will have a lot of tools at hand. I hope later to comment on the hypocrite Mark Sanford and idiot Clarence Thomas in a future post. Needless to say they provide further evident the the Conservative movement is a fraud and a farce. But today is a RIP edition of the Friday roundup.

Yesterday was a big ... no ... HUGE news day. In the morning we learned that Farrah Faucett died. That was not unexpected as her decline from cancer was chronicled with excruciating detail for the past few months. The TV networks (especially ABC) were more than ready for wall to wall coverage of her death and leaped into action at the time of her passing. I guess I was a fan. I had her poster up in my room as a kid but somehow managed to miss all her Lifetime movies over the years. It is sad that she died so young and I do feel bad. She seemed like a genuinely sweet person.

Of course the Farrah coverage was short lived yesterday after the death of Michael Jackson (I am guessing the cause was accidental overdose). I love to be the one breaking big news and I got that chance yesterday. I stepped out of work to pick up some food when my phone began going wild. First a text from CNN saying that MJ had suffered a cardiac arrest. Moments later my sister texted me and then I went to work. Texting, twittering and calling. The next couple hours I was the pied piper of lower Manhattan - and beyond - spreading the news.

I was a big fan of Michael Jackson back in the day. I bought the Thriller album - at least 4 times! I believe twice on vinyl and twice on cassette. I was DJ'ing a lot at the time and in the mayhem of all the parties I frequently ruined records. So I replaced many albums after spilling stuff on them and (I have to admit) not putting them back in their sleeve. The popularity of Thriller lasted 2 full years - an unbelievable long time as single after single climbed the charts. They were two of the funnest years of my life. I had the Billy Jean dance down pretty good (good enough for drunk frat parties) which impressed more than a couple co-eds in the mid eighties. So thanks MJ for helping me enjoy many a party and getting me into some very good after parties.

I never knew that Michael Jackson had said so many inspirational quotes. Tony Robbins, the motivational speaker, has posted a few of them on his twitter account this morning. Here are a couple that caught my eye. RIP MJ

"If you enter this world knowing U are loved & U leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with".

"In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream".
