Tuesday Roundup!

It's finally been a great few days for Yankee fans as the team has won 5 games in a row including 4 straight at home. I was at the Friday night game which turned out to be the first "walk off" victory of three in a row that would take place. I really got the feeling that Friday, and the entire weekend series against the Twins, was a real house warming for the new Stadium. It is really beginning to feel like home and these sort of thrilling, last minute victories sure cement that feeling.

Torture is all the buzz in the political world. Many people want accountability for the authorization and implementation of torture by the United States. It is, after all, against the laws and our very principles. Republicans hope to distract the public by focusing on Speaker Pelosi's idiotic press conference last week. The mainstream media, who just can't quit giving credibility to theses right wing nut cases, are happily obliging. The bottom line to me is that torture was wrong and should be investigated by an independent panel. Let the chips fall where they may. Common sense says that those who let the mention of these techniques pass them by were wrong. But those who went against American values and laws by authorizing and implementing torture were much, much worse. I mean - really - lets not be distracted from that most basic piece of logic.

Now we also learn that Don Rumsfeld used pictures and (gulp) Bible verse to convince our former lame brained President Bush to invade Iraq. (They also used their torture to try to draw a false connection between Iraq and 9-11). The Conservative movement would clearly be more comfortable in a theocracy rather than a democracy. They want an Ayotolla who will connect all their crazy ideas to religion. Let us pray.... pray that these people never get power again.

The swine flu is still big news here in NYC especially because the first death of a New Yorker occurred yesterday. I have only seen a couple people wearing masks and I'm surprised how calm everyone is about it. Although when someone sneezes on the subway, everyone does now subconsciously lean away.

I record a number of shows and depending on the availability of time at the end of the day, watch them after work. One show that has really surprised me is "The View". It is one of the most interesting and unique shows around. I always like panel discussions but thought of this show as a bunch of women sitting around gossiping. But on The View you get a variety of opinions given (yes a couple of the panelist are air heads) and some pretty interesting topics and guest. I do turn it off during the celebrity interviews. Watch this show or record it - you might be surprised.
